Cardinals Place Rookie TE Troy Niklas On I.R. & Sign TE Matthew Mulligan

The Arizona Cardinals have placed rookie TE Troy Niklas on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday and signed TE Matthew Mulligan to a contract, according to Aaron Wilson.

Niklas’ rookie has been limited due to ankle injuries. Unfortunately for Niklas, he re-injured his ankle during Sunday’s win over the Lions.

It appears as though the Cardinals would just prefer him to take the necessary time to get healthy.

His first year in the NFL comes to an end with him catching three passes for 38 yards over the course of seven games.

Mulligan, 29, is a well traveled blocking tight end, who most recently played for the Bears. Since being cut loose by Chicago, Mulligan hadn’t found any reported interest before this.

Last year, he appeared in 15 games and caught two passes for 16 yards receiving and a touchdown.
