Cardinals Placing OLB Matt Shaughnessy On Short-Term I.R.

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians announced Monday that they are placing OLB Matt Shaughnessy going on injured reserve with the designation to return after he suffered a knee on Sunday, per Darren Urban.

  • Shaughnessy  is expected to miss about six weeks or so.

This is hardly the type of news the Cardinals were hoping for as injuries continue to mount for their defensive unit. Thomas Keiser could be in line for more work next week, but it would not be surprising to see Arizona bring in some free agents for workouts in the next few days.

Shaughnessy, 28, signed a two-year, $4.4 million contract with the Cardinals back in March, which includes another $2.2 million in incentives.

So far this season, Shaughnessy has recorded nine tackles over the course of four games.
