Adam Schefter reports that the Cardinals placing RB Adrian Peterson on injured reserve with a neck injury.

Indications all week have been that Peterson was likely done for the season with this neck injury, so it shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

It will, however, be interesting to see if the Cardinals bring him back next year or elect to take the cap space and move in a new direction at running back, considering that they will have David Johnson back next year.

Peterson, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2007. After 10 seasons in Minnesota, Peterson signed a two-year, $7 million contract with the Saints and stands to make base salaries of $1 million and $1.05 million over the next two years.

The Saints elected to trade Peterson to the Cardinals before this year’s deadline after things didn’t go as expected in New Orleans. The Saints will receive a conditional 2018 sixth-round pick from the Cardinals for Peterson.

In 2017, Peterson appeared in 10 games for the Saints and Cardinals and rushed for 529 yards on 156 carries (3.4 YPC) to go along with 11 receptions for 70 yards receiving and two total touchdowns.
