Cardinals Promote S D.J. Swearinger, Place G Earl Watford On I.R.

The Arizona Cardinals have promoted S D.J. Swearinger to their active roster on Tuesday and placed G Earl Watford on season-ending injured reserve.

Swearinger, 23, is a former second-round pick of the Texans out of South Carolina back in 2013. The Texans waived Swearinger shortly after the draft, and he was later claimed by the Buccaneers. Unfortunately, Tampa Bay cut him loose a few weeks ago.

Swearinger wound up signing to the Cardinals’ practice a week ago.

This season, Swearinger has appeared in seven games for the Buccaneers and recorded 12 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Watford, 25, is in the third year of his four-year, $2.595 million rookie contract that included a $434,864 signing bonus. He’ll make a base salary of $585,000 this season and another $675,000 next year.

This season, Watford appeared in eight games for the Cardinals.
