Cardinals & QB Blaine Gabbert Still Discussing Potential Deal

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports that the Cardinals and free agent QB Blaine Gabbert are still discussing a potential deal.

While Cardinals HC Bruce Arians like Gabbert, Somers still can’t see them paying him much in terms of salary.

Gabbert was expected to work out for the Cardinals this week after a report surfaced that the two parties were discussing a deal.

Many expected the Cardinals to target a quarterback in this year’s draft, but that wasn’t the case.

As things stand right now, the Cardinals have Drew Stanton and Zac Dysert behind Carson Palmer.

Gabbert, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2010. After three years in Jacksonville, he was traded to the 49ers in return for a sixth-round pick back in March of 2014.

Gabbert played out the final year of his two-year, $4 million contract and has been testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent.

In 2016, Gabbert appeared in eight games for the 49ers and threw for 925 yards while completing 56.9 percent of their passes to go along with five touchdowns and six interceptions. Gabbert also rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 34 quarterback out of 34 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding the Cardinals and Gabbert as the news is available.
