Cardinals QB Carson Palmer Triggers $1M Salary Escalator

Tom Pelissero of USA Today mentions that Cardinals QB Carson Palmer triggered a $1 million escalator included in his contract based on his 2014 production.

According to Pelissero, Palmer will make a base salary of $9 million in 2014 and will count $12 million against the team’s salary cap.

Previous reports have indicated that Palmer is expected to remain the Cardinals’ starting quarterback next season, even though his season had its ups and downs. Still, the Cardinals were clearly the best team in the league who didn’t qualify for the playoffs in 2013.

He finished the year 63.3 percent of his passing attempts for 4,274 yards, 24 touchdowns and 22 interceptions.

After coming over from the Raiders in a trade last season, Palmer signed a three-year, $26 million contract that included $10 million guaranteed. He still has two years remaining on his contract, even though his 2015 salary is voidable.

Pro Football Focus has Palmer rated as the No. 19 quarterback this season.
