Cardinals RB Andre Ellington Could Be Out An “Extended Period Of Time”

Update:

Mike Jurecki mentions that Andre Ellington‘s timeline to return from his foot injury could be 4-6 weeks and possibly longer, depending on how he heels.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that there’s still a chance Cardinals RB Andre Ellington could play in Monday night’s opener, despite undergoing an MRI on his foot.

  • Rapoport adds that the first prescription for Ellington’s injury is rest and no surgery is not required.
  • Jay Glazer reports that Ellington is dealing with a muscle injury in his foot and still waiting for MRI results and to meet with a foot specialist.
  • However, Glazer mentions that muscle injures often come without a set timetable and heal differently.

Mike Jurecki of Fox Sports 910 reported last night that Cardinals RB Andre Ellington underwent an MRI on his left foot Thursday.

Ellington has reportedly been “dealing with some discomfort” for the past week, but he wound up aggravating the injury in Thursday’s practice, which led to him getting an MRI.

Jurecki is now hearing that Ellington could be out an “extended period of time.”

It’s worth mentioning that Ellington has dealt with foot issues in the past.

For months now we’ve heard that Cardinals planned on using Ellington in a much larger capacity this season, but it sounds like he could be in jeopardy of missing at least Week 1’s opening game against the Chargers.

Arizona has Jonathan Dwyer listed as the No. 2 running back on their most recent depth chart followed by Stepfan Taylor.

Last year, Ellington ran for 652 yards on 118 carries (5.5 YPC) while catching 39 passes for 371 yards. He scored four total touchdowns as well.

We’ll have more regarding his status as the news is available.
