Cardinals RB David Johnson was carted off to the locker room after sustaining what appears to be a left knee injury.

Johnson was being held up by defenders when one of the Rams’ players rolled right onto his knee and his leg flexed awkwardly. Here’s the video:

Based on video of the play, David Chao mentions that the concern for Johnson is that he may have suffered an MCL sprain.

The Cardinals have nothing to play for, so here’s hoping that one of the most exciting young players in the game did not suffer a major knee injury in the final game of the season.

Johnson, 25, was taken in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Cardinals. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $2.992 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $615,000 and $705,000 over the next two years.

Entering today’s game, Johnson had rushed for 1,233 yards on 288 carries (4.3 YPC) to go along with 77 receptions for 841 yards receiving and 20 total touchdowns for the Cardinals. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 4 running back out of 55 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Johnson’s injury as the news is available.
