Cardinals In The Market For A RB?

According to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic, the Cardinals coaching staff has concerns regarding La’Rod Stephens-Howling ‘s ability to shoulder the workload, which could force them to consider some of the available free agent options.

Somers specifically mentions Joseph Addai, Tim Hightower, Steve Slaton, and Cadillac Williams as some possibilities.

Several media outlets have confirmed that Arizona Cardinals running back Ryan Williams will have surgery to repair the AC joint in his left shoulder, and will consequently miss the rest of the season.

Williams’ bad luck continues, having missed the whole of last year with a ruptured patellar tendon. He sustained the injury in last Thursday night’s 17-3 loss to the St. Louis Rams.

Things look pretty bleak at the RB position right now for the Cardinals, with leading tailback Beanie Wells on the shelf for several more weeks with turf toe.  Mike Jurecki tweets that the Cardinals will go with La’Rod Stephens-Howling until Wells is eligible to return from the IR list. This is terrible news for Cardinals, who already have plenty of offensive issues to begin with. William Powell and Alfonso Smith could both see some action in the coming weeks, but you would have to think that the Cardinals would at least consider looking to the trade market if their current group of backs fail miserably.
