Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Cardinals are re-signing veteran RB Chris Johnson to a one-year contract ahead of training camp.
- Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the Cardinals signed Johnson to a one-year contract worth $1 million. The agreement includes $200,000 guaranteed and can be worth more by reaching incentives included in the deal.
There had been some recent speculation that the Cardinals could bring Johnson back, given that their depth behind David Johnson is somewhat questionable and he’s obviously familiar with their offensive system.
Johnson, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Titans back in 2008. After six years in Tennessee, Johnson signed on with the Jets for the 2014 season but spent just one year in New York before joining the Cardinals the following season.
Arizona elected to bring Johnson back on a one-year, $1.5 million contract last March and was testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent.
In 2016, Johnson rushed for 95 yards on 25 carries (3.8 YPC) and scored one touchdown over the course of four games.
