Cardinals Release RB Mike Gillislee From PS, Sign RB Robert Hughes

The Arizona Cardinals have signed RB Robert Hughes to their practice squad on Thursday and released RB Mike Gillislee from the unit, per Darren Urban.

The Cardinals’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. RB Robert Hughes
  2. DB Carrington Byndom
  3. DE Olsen Pierre
  4. DB Durell Eskridge
  5. TE Brandon Bostick (Exception)
  6. RB Kerwynn Williams
  7. ILB Gabe Martin
  8. WR Jaxon Shipley
  9. OT Rob Crisp (injured)
  10. G Antoine McClain
  11. CB Robert Nelson

Gillislee, 23, was a fifth-round pick of the Dolphins in the 2013 NFL Draft. He spent just over two years in Miami before he was among their roster cuts at the start of the regular season.

The Cardinals later added Gillislee to their practice squad a few weeks later, but it appears as though they prefer to go in a different direction at running back.

Gillislee hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since his rookie season with the Dolphins.

Hughes, 26, originally signed on with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame back in 2011. Since then, Hughes has played for a number of teams including the Buccaneers, Redskins, Colts and Cardinals.

Last year, Hughes appeared in all 16 games for the Cardinals and arn for 11 yards on seven carries (1.6 YPC) to go along with eight receptions for 140 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
