Cardinals Reportedly Interested In OLB Brian Orakpo

Mike Jurecki reports that the Cardinals have expressed interest in signing Redskins free agent OLB Brian Orakpo in recent days.

Mike Jones reported yesterday that the Redskins haven’t closed the door on re-signing Orakpo and the two sides were scheduled to discuss a potential extension on Saturday.

However, Jones adds that it’s hard to say just how likely an agreement on a contract is at this point in time.

Team sources told Dianna Marie Russini on Friday that Orakpo “will not be back” in Washington next year.

The two sides have at least been in contact with one another in recent days, but Orakpo mentioned during an appearance on the NFL Network that there talks regarding a return have been “very minimal,” per Jones.

Arizona is now to be in search of linebacker help and have been linked to a number of free agents in recent days.

Orakpo, 28, played out the 2014 season under the team’s franchise tag and is once again in line to be an unrestricted free agent. Last year, he made a salary of  $11.455 million.

In 2014, Orakpo recorded 24 tackles, a half sack and a pass defense over the course of seven games.

We have him listed as the No. 28 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
