Cardinals Rule Out Carson Palmer For Week 5, Starting Drew Stanton

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians officially ruled out QB Carson Palmer (concussion) for Thursday’s game against the 49ers.

This means that Drew Stanton will get the start tomorrow night for Arizona.

Palmer won’t travel with the team to San Francisco but Arians did say that he is “very optimistic” about Palmer’s chances of playing in next week’s game.

Palmer, 36, was in the third year of his four-year, $58.5 million contract and set to make a base salary of $6.35 million for the 2016 season when the Cardinals signed him to a one-year extension worth $24.35 million a few months ago.

In 2016, Palmer has appeared in four games and thrown for 1,150 yards while completing 58.8 percent of his passes to go along with six touchdowns and five interceptions.

Stanton, 32, is a former second-round pick of the Lions back in 2007. He’s currently in the first year of his two-year, $6.5 million contract and set to make a base salary of $1 million for the 2016 season.

This year, Stanton has completed four-of-11 passes for 37 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions for the Cardinals.
