Cardinals Spoke To The Buccaneers About QB Mike Glennon

Buccaneers GM Jason Licht mentioned in a recent radio interview that he did speak with Cardinals GM Steve Keim about possibly trading second-year QB Mike Glennon.

We talked about Mike, but I wasn’t going to let him bully me into taking the quarterback,” Licht said, via Fox Sports 910. “No, I’m kidding. Just casual conversations. I know Steve has always had a lot of admiration and respect for Mike, but we do as well and he’s not getting him.”

Licht has said previously that they received “a lot of interest” in Glennon during the offseason, but ultimately choose to hold on to him.

“There’s a lot of interest and we want to keep Mike,’‘ Licht said last month. “(They were) just feeling it out. I know that Mike has a very good reputation throughout the league as far as his developmental future.

Lovie Smith’s tone regarding Glennon has changed now that the draft has passed and has even referred to Glennon as being their quarterback of the future.

The Cardinals were rumored to be a team who could target Glennon during the draft, but ultimately chose not to address the quarterback position last year, but did come away from the 2014 draft with Virginia Tech QB Logan Thomas. NFL teams have random conversations about a number of players, but it is interesting to hear that they at least considered the idea.

Tampa Bay used the No. 73 pick on Glennon last year, who would end up taking over for Josh Freeman in Week 4 and would go on to throw for 2,608 yards while completing 59.4 percent of his passes and contributing 19 touchdowns.

Pro Football Focus rated Glennon as the No. 34 quarterback in the league out of 42 qualifying players.
