Cardinals Starting RB Kerwynn Williams For Week 2

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians said that RB Kerwynn Williams will start Week 2, while Andre Ellington will be the primary backup and play third downs, per Mike Jurecki.

Arians also indicated that RB Chris Johnson will “get some carries.

Williams, 26, is a former seventh-round pick of the Colts back in 2013. He lasted just a few months in Indianapolis before signing on to the Chargers’ practice squad.

The Cardinals would later sign him to their own practice squad during the 2014 season and he had bounced on and off the practice squad.

Arizona ultimately elected to cut him loose as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players before re-signing him a few weeks into the 2016 season.

In 2016, Williams appeared in 10 games for the Cardinals and recorded 18 carries for 157 rushing yards (8.7 YPC) and scored two touchdowns.
