Cardinals Working Out QB Blaine Gabbert

Update:

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic Arizona confirms that the Cardinals are, in fact, interested in free agent QB Blaine Gabbert and plan to work him out this week.

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle is reporting that the Cardinals are in talks with free agent QB Blaine Gabbert.

This is the first reported interest in Gabbert since the free agent market officially opened a few months ago.

Many expected the Cardinals to target a quarterback in this year’s draft, but they ultimately passed on doing so.

As of now, the Cardinals have Drew Stanton and Zac Dysert behind Carson Palmer.

Gabbert, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2010. After three years in Jacksonville, he was traded to the 49ers in return for a sixth-round pick back in March of 2014.

Gabbert played out the final year of his two-year, $4 million contract and has been testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent.

In 2016, Gabbert appeared in eight games for the 49ers and threw for 925 yards while completing 56.9 percent of their passes to go along with five touchdowns and six interceptions. Gabbert also rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 34 quarterback out of 34 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding the Cardinals and Gabbert as the news is available.
