Cardinals Waive OT Andre Smith & CB Bene Benwikere, Place LB Josh Bynes On IR

The Arizona Cardinals announced Monday that they’ve waived OT Andre Smith and CB Bene Benwikere and placed LB Josh Bynes on injured reserve.

Smith, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Bengals back in 2009. After seven years in Cincinnati, Smith signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Vikings.

Smith later returned to the Bengals last year on a one-year, $3.25 million contract before agreeing to a two-year, $8 million deal with the Cardinals this past March.

Benwikere, 27, is a former fifth-round pick of the Panthers back in 2014. He’s was in the third year of his four-year, $2.419 million contract when the Panthers cut him loose during the 2016 season.

Benewikere had brief stints with the Dolphins and Packers before he signed a futures contract with the Bengals last February. Cincinnati later traded him to the Cowboys for a conditional 2019 sixth-round pick.

The Cardinals signed Benewikere to a contract this past March.

In 2018, Benwikere has appeared in 11 games for the Cardinals and recorded 51 tackles, a half sack, an interception, a forced fumble and four pass defenses.
