Carson Wentz Wants To Play Through Stress Fracture

John Clark of NBC Philly reports that Eagles QB Carson Wentz really wants to play through the stress fracture in his back and even got another opinion from a specialist while the team was in Los Angeles.

However, the doctor Wentz spoke to agreed with the Eagles that rest is what’s best for him right now.

Eagles HC Doug Pederson implied that Wentz wants to keep playing, despite the injury.

Does he want to play through it? I would say this — and not speaking for Carson, I don’t want to put words in his mouth — but I think as an athlete who has an injury this time of year, if it’s not going to set them back, then yeah, I would say that everybody wants to play through injury,” Pederson said, via NBC Philly.

You see it around the league, not just with Carson, Avonte Maddox, Jordan Hicks, I think these guys have enough pride and want-to to try, but we’ve got to make sure they’re 100 percent. That’s kind of been our philosophy around here.

The Eagles have made it clear that they’re focused on Wentz’s long-term health and are fine moving forward with Nick Foles in place as their starting quarterback.

Philadelphia has yet to place Wentz on injured reserve, which would cost them the remainder of the season, so there’s at a chance he could return later on in the year if needed.

Wentz, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Eagles back in 2016. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $26.7 million contract that included a $16.7 million signing bonus.

Wentz stands to make base salaries of $2.87 million and $4.08 million over the final two years of the agreement. The Eagles will have a fifth-year option to pick up on Wentz next year.

In 2018, Wentz has appeared in 11 games for the Eagles and completed 69.9 percent of his passes for 3,074 yards, 21 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He has also rushed for 93 yards.
