Former Broncos CB Champ Bailey has decided to retire from the NFL and pursue other career opportunities, according to his agent Jack Reale, per Adam Schefter.
“Champ has some outstanding opportunities that he’s going to pursue,” Reale said in a telephone interview, via the Baltimore Sun. “He’s heard from several teams, I’m not going to say who, but this is the way that Champ has decided to go. He’s had a great career.”
Bailey reportedly had interest from two playoff contenders, but it appears as though he’s prepared to move on with his life and call it a career.
He had met with the Ravens and Lions since he was cut loose by the Saints trimmed their roster down to 53 players at the end of August. Back in April, the Saints signed Bailey to a two-year contract worth a max value of $7 million.
Bailey, 36, appeared in just five games last year due to a foot injury and recorded 14 tackles to go along with three passes defensed.
He finishes his 15-year career with 983 career tackles, 52 interceptions, 235 pass deflections, nine forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. Bailey is a 12-time Pro Bowl selection that should be in the discussion for the Hall of Fame in the coming years.
