A Chance Michael Sam Could Go Undrafted?

Missouri DE Michael Sam was clearly in the spotlight throughout his Scouting Combine workout, but after posting some underwhelming numbers, there is some talk that he could be draft as laste as the seventh-round or possibly even go undrafted.

Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network offered some insight as to why this could be the case come May topic during an appearance on NFL AM.

“The number everybody keeps talking about is the 25.5 inch vertical. That is way down there. That is not good for an offensive lineman. That shows you a lack of explosiveness, which is going to scare a lot of people off,” Jeremiah said, via CollegeFootball 24/7. “We talk about the importance of the combine vs. the pro day. He needs to jump better than that at his pro day or I think it’s a real chance, you’re talking about (a) seventh-round pick, possibly even going undrafted. He does have some good tape. I think he’s a good football player. But when you don’t really have the overall athleticism teams are looking for, and you don’t really have a true position, which we’ve talked about before, it makes it tough.

Sam measure in at 6-1 and 260 pounds and posted a 40-yard dash time of 4.91 to go along with just 17 reps.

There has been a wide range of opinions regarding where Sam could come off the board. Mike Mayock has said that Sam is a third to firth-round pick, but later mentioned that he could be more in the fifth to seventh-round range following his Combine performance.

Sam clearly has a lot riding on his Pro Day workout on March 6.
