Chargers Bringing In Veteran WR James Jones For A Visit

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Chargers are bringing in veteran WR James Jones for a visit on Tuesday.

Rapoport considers Jones to be a “strong option” San Diego, especially after the news that WR Stevie Johnson is likely to undergo surgery for a torn meniscus, and could be out an extended period of time.

Jones said a few months ago that he was surprised he’s still without a job at this point in the year, considering that he’s coming off of a productive 2015 season for the Packers.

Jones added that he’s been training in the Bay Area to stay in shape in case an opportunity came about.

Jones, 32, hasn’t found any reported interest since free agency got underway several months ago. He’s coming off of a productive season for the Packers and is among the best receivers still available.

In 2015, Jones appeared in all 16 games for the Packers and recorded 50 receptions for 890 yards receiving and eight touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 45 receiver out of 121 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Best Available Free Agents list.
