Chargers C Nick Hardwick Considering Retirement

The San Diego Chargers offensive line could be in serious flux next season as Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that C Nick Hardwick is considering retiring after suffering a seizure following a concussion earlier in the day.

“I love football,” said Hardwick. “It’s a hard decision. There is a lot that goes into it. It’s heavy. So I’m not willing to think about it right now.”

Hardwick shattered his foot in the 2009 season opener, had surgery and came back to play that December and has started every game the past two seasons,” writes Acee. “But the effects of that injury and others accrued in 102 NFL starts take their toll on every player.”

There are also questions about LT Marcus McNeill future as he’s also dealing with a serious injury of his own.

Left (tackle) Marcus McNeill is hopeful to return, but there are concerns he won’t play again due to ongoing spinal issues.

Thankfully for San Diego, they claimed LT Jared Gaither off of waivers less than a month ago and they’ll almost certainly retain him during the offseason. The Chargers would also be smart to consider drafting some help for the o-line. We have the Chargers taking G David Decastro out Stanford in most recent 2012 Mock Draft.
