Chargers Concerned About Ryan Mathews?

Michael Gehlken of the Union-Tribune San Diego writes that there’s “some doubt” within the Chargers organization RB Ryan Mathews will “become the player that was envisioned three years ago.”

Gehlken adds that San Diego still has faith that Mathews will have a good career in the NFL.

Mathews, 25, suffered two broken clavicles in just four months and didn’t look like the same guy he was a season ago when healthy, so it makes sense that there would be at least some concern from the organization. San Diego traded up 16 spots to get Mathews back in 2010, which is a pretty big investment for a team to make in a running back. He’ll have to show the next regime that he’s capable of staying healthy and receptive to their new offensive scheme once they find their next head coach.
