ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Chargers RB Ryan Mathews is scheduled to undergo an MRI on injured knee after he was forced to leave Sunday’s game on a cart.

According to Schefter, the concern right now for the Chargers is that Mathews has a sprained MCL.

Mathews was attempting to recover a fumble when he had a player roll up on his legs. Danny Woodhead and Donald Brown handled the workload with Mathews out of the lineup.

Mathews is in a contract year, so he really has a lot riding on this season. The good news is that we’re discussing his MCL and not his ACL. Players can come back in a few weeks from an MCL, but we’ll have to see what the MRI reveals in the coming days.
