Chargers Considering Texans LB Mario Williams, Calais Campbell?

Scott Bair of the North County Times makes the case for the San Diego Chargers signing Texans free agent LB Mario Williams.

The idea is purely speculative but it would address one of the Chargers biggest needs which is versitile lineman that can given them a solid pass rush. Williams moved to outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense which is a pretty tough move for someone that’s use to playing 4-3 defensive end but Williams was able to tally five sacks and forced fumble in only five games this season.

Bair also adds Arizona Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell to list of potential options for the Chargers. Campbell played the three-technique in Arizona so he wouldn’t be making  a transition like Williams have made last season.

This assumes that the Texans would allow Williams to leave without using their franchise tag on him. Houston head coach Gary Kubiak did mention that the team is interested in re-signing him but it’s hard to imagine that they’d be willing to allocate more money to position of strength but it’s certainly a possibility.
