According to columnist Kevin Acee of Union Tribune, the Chargers “love” Alabama safety Mark Barron and have discussed the possibility of moving up in this year’s draft to acquire him.
Most experts have Barron slotted for the Cowboys at number #14 overall, which means that if the Chargers want to trade up for him, they would have to move up from #18 and hope to at least secure a deal with the Cardinals at #13 overall. There’s still a chance that he could be gone before then, depending on what happens in the Top 10 picks, but certainly moving ahead of the Cowboys is must if they’re interested in drafting him.
Barron’s name has been a buzz leading up to the draft as other teams including the Patriots have been rumored to have interest in trading up for the safety as well. He has the skill level to be a day one starter at safety in the NFL.
