Chargers Expected To Place P Mike Scifres On I.R.

Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reports that Chargers P Mike Scifres is likely headed to the season-ending injured reserve list, as San Diego is expected to add a center to their active roster.

According to Marvez, the Chargers want to keep WR Keenan Allen and RB Ryan Mathews on their active roster for the playoffs.

Scifres sustained a broken clavicle after he took a hard hit from Patriots RB Brandon Bolden that left him corkscrewing in the air and ultimately landing directly on his shoulder.

San Diego was reportedly hoping to have Scifries back for the playoffs, but they continue to deal with injuries to their offensive line, particularly to the center position.

Scifres, 34, still has another three years remaining on his six-year, $20 million contract that included $9 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $3.25 million for the 2015 season.

This season, Scifres ranks No. 19 in the league in terms of average net punting yards and No. 23 in punts downed inside the 20-yard-line. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 11 punter out of 34 qualifying players this season.
