Chargers Have No Plans To Add Another RB

Michael Gehlken of the Union-Tribune San Diego writes that the Chargers have “no immediate plans to add a running back in free agency,” despite the fact that they lost Mike Tolbert during free agency.

There’s already been a lot of talk that Ryan Mathews will be used a featured back in 2012. Head coach Norv Turner left the door open for Curtis Brinkley to see time as their third-down back, so the evaluation process will obviously have to play out before the Chargers even consider adding another option. They also have seventh-round draft pick Edwin Baker as well as undrafted free agent Michael Hayes to consider as well.

Should the Charger elect to sign a veteran player, it would require anymore than a minimum contract and a tryout, but at this point in time, they figure to move forward with who they already have on their roster.

  1. I have a real good feeling about Mathews this year……. If they use him like they have been threatening to, he could be a top 3-5 back in the league.
