Chargers HC Mike McCoy On The Hot Seat?

According to Jason Cole of B/R, Chargers HC Mike McCoy is in a “highly difficult situation” and could be on the hot seat as the team heads into the second-half of the season.

Cole points out that the team’s poor record and playoff expectations in his third could lead to San Diego possibly moving on next year. Should the team continue to struggle, and eventually make the move to Los Angeles, Chargers’ sources tell Cole McCoy’s job could be in jeopardy.

You could easily make the case that the Chargers’ rash of injuries has submarined their 2015 season, but Cole doesn’t believe this excuse will fly and seems to think McCoy has half a season to get things turned around.

This isn’t the first we’ve seen in recent days about McCoy’s job being in jeopardy. ESPN’s Adam Caplan (Insider) also considers McCoy’s seat to be “warm” right now.

Source told Caplan that they expected the Chargers’ defense  to take a big step, but the unit has “severely underachieved” even with the number of injuries they incurred.

Caplan still believes McCoy deserves the chance to see what he can do with a healthy offense, but it’s clear they need more from their defense moving forward.

Since taking the Chargers job in 2013, McCoy has led them to a record of 20-20 including one playoff win. He’s posted back-to-back seasons with a 9-7 record, but they’re off to a 2-6 start in 2015.

We’ll have more regarding McCoy’s future as the news is available.
