Chargers & Joey Bosa Reportedly Haven’t Spoken Since Last Thursday

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that the Chargers and first-round DE Joey Bosa haven’t spoke to one another since Thursday.

According to Florio, the Chargers made Bosa an offer Thursday morning and Bosa’s representatives responded to the team within 90 minutes of receiving the offer. Florio adds that the last communication between the two parties was the team asking Bosa’s reps if they were sure about their position, which they are.

The sticking point in contract talks remain the inclusion of offset language and the amount of signing bonus to be paid out this year.

“We’re disappointed that he’s not here,” GM Tom Telesco said Friday. “We just have some small, fundamental differences that haven’t been resolved yet. But we’re still actively talking. We’re still actively working on it.”

Bosa, 20, was taken with the No. 3 overall pick by the Chargers. It was a bit of a surprise to see them grab Bosa, considering the amount of buzz that they were going to take either take Ronnie Stanley or DeForest Buckner.

However, Bosa gives them a solid pass-rushing prospect to develop in the coming years. The expectation right now is Bosa will see plenty of snaps at defensive end in their sub packages.

According to OverTheCap.com, Bosa will sign a four-year contract worth $25,873,672 to go along with a signing bonus of $17,017,216 once they’ve reached an agreement on the contract specifics. The contract will include a fifth-year option for the team to consider in 2019.

During his three-year career at Ohio State, Bosa recorded 148 tackles, 51 tackles for a loss, 26 sacks, five forced fumbles, an interception, two fumble recoveries, and six pass defenses.
