Chargers Keeping Norv Turner & A.J. Smith?

The San Diego Chargers turned their season around in the second-half again and wound up finishing in a three-way tie for the AFC West title.

It was widely believed that the Chargers would be firing Norv Turner following the season but Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Chargers owner Dean Spanos may not be ready to blow things up given the teams performance down the stretch.

It’s been speculated that the Chargers could lure one of the big name coaches like Jeff Fisher or Bill Cowher but Spanos is very proud of how the team finished and could be reluctant to make a change at this point.

It was really exciting,” Spanos said following Sunday’s win over Oakland. “I’m really proud of them. I think it really shows how resilient they are, how hard they play for this coach.”

A decision regarding Turner and Smith will be coming in the days ahead but they appear to have a shot of retaining their jobs.

I’m going to sleep on this for a couple days,” Spanos said. “… There are a lot of things I want to think about.”
