Chargers Keeping Norv Turner And A.J. Smith?

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune writes Chargers owner Dean Spanos has been impressed bu the teams late run at the postseason and that paired with the support from the teams fan base could be enough to save the jobs of GM A.J. Smith and Norv Turner. Acee adds that the Chargers next two games will have a big impact on the teams decision to retain them.

Just a few weeks ago it was almost inconceivable that the either Smith or Turner would be back next season as the team had been a huge disappointment this year. Yes they’ve rattled off three straight wins, the most recent win against Baltimore was very convincing, but the team should never have been in this position and it’s not the first year that they’ve started terrible slow and gone on a winning streak late in the season. Spanos may elect to keep them but both jobs will be highly coveted during the offseason which means that they should be able to get a solid coaching staff in place rather quickly. Sometimes teams are in need of a new direction and San Diego, in my humble opinion, has reached that point.
