Chargers Officially Place WR Stevie Johnson On Season-Ending I.R

The San Diego Chargers officially placed WR Stevie Johnson on season-ending injured reserve Monday after he underwent surgery to repair his meniscus last week.

Johnson was carried off the practice field over a week ago after going down with a non-contact right knee injury, so it was clear that this could be a serious issue for him. He wound up getting a second opinion on his meniscus tear, but the injury was worse than he and the team werew hoping.

The Chargers have already signed veteran WR James Jones to a one-year contract to bolster their depth at receiver.

Johnson, 30, is in the second year of his three-year, $10.5 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $2.9 million and $3.5 million over the next two years.

In 2015, Johnson appeared in 10 games for the Chargers and recorded 45 receptions for 497 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 62 receiver out of 121 qualifying players.
