Chargers Pick Up CB Jason Verrett’s Fifth-Year Option

The Los Angeles Chargers have picked up CB Jason Verrett’s fifth-year option, according to Ian Rapoport.

The fifth-year option will run the Chargers $8,526,000 million for the 2018 season, according to Joel Corry, but is guaranteed only for injury and won’t prevent them from working on a long-term extension over the next year.

Verrett, 25, was taken with the No. 25 overall pick back in 2014 by the Chargers. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $7.889 million contract and set to make a base salary of $860,000 for the 2017 season.

In 2016, Verrett was limited to appearing in just four games and recorded 13 tackles, one interception and three pass defenses for the Chargers. His year ended after he suffered a torn left ACL and was subsequently placed on season-ending injured reserve.
