Chargers Place C Rich Ohrnberger On Season-Ending I.R.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the San Diego Chargers have placed C Rich Ohrnberger season-ending injured reserve Tuesday.

Michael Gehlken of the Union-Tribue San Diego reported on Monday that Ohrnberger will undergo back surgery and his 2014 season was over, so Schefter’s report is really more of a confirmation.

Unfortunately for the Chargers, this is the third center that has ended up on the injured reserve list this season, as they have already lost Nick Hardwick and Doug Legursky.

The Chargers are likely to turn to rookie Chris Watt as their starting center for the remainder of the season.

Ohrnberger, 28, is in the final year of his contract and will be an unrestricted free agent next season. Pro Football Focus has Ohrnberger rated as the No. 38 center in the league out of 42 qualifying players.
