Chargers Place CB Jason Verrett On Season-Ending I.R. & Active OLB Melvin Ingram

The San Diego Chargers have placed rookie CB Jason Verrett on season-ending injured reserve Saturday, according to Michael Gehlken.

  • Gehlken adds that Verrett is scheduled to undergo surgery on his labrum tear Wednesday in Los Angeles.
  • San Diego also waived OLB Cordarro Law and signed S Adrian Phillips to a contract.

Verrett was surprisingly active for the Week 8’s game against the Broncos, but he wound up re-injuring his shoulder and recent indications were that this was a pretty severe injury.

There were some durability concerns with Verrett coming out of TCU, so this will be something to monitor over the course of his career.

Verrett’s rookie campaign ends with him appearing in six games and recording 19 tackles, one interception and four passes defended.

The Chargers also activated former first-round pick Melvin Ingram from the short-term injured reserve list.

Ingram, 25, is coming off of a hip injury he suffered at the start of the season. Last year, he missed 12 games due to an ACL injury.

Ingram is currently in the third year of his rookie contract and will make a base salary of $1,153,476 this season and another $785,214 in 2015.
