Chargers Place ILB Donald Butler On Season-Ending I.R.

The San Diego Chargers announced Monday night that they’ve placed ILB Donald Butler on season-ending injured reserve after he sustained a dislocated elbow during Sunday’s loss to the Broncos.

  • The Chargers signed CB Greg Ducre off of their practice squad to take Butler’s place on the active roster.

The overall expectation was that Butler was done for the year, so this news shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

Butler, 26, signed a seven-year, $51.8 million contract extension with the Chargers back in March, but the deal is essentially just a three-year, $19.8 million contract.

San Diego will have to decide whether or not to pick up his $12 million club option after the third year of the agreement.

He stands to make a base salary of $3.25 million for the 2015 season.

Butler’s year ends with him recording 73 tackles, one sack, and three fumble recoveries over the course of 14 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 59 inside linebacker out of 60 qualifying players.
