Chargers Place RB Andre Williams On Injured Reserve

The Los Angeles Chargers announced Tuesday that they’ve officially placed RB Andre Williams on injured reserve.

This should come as no surprise, considering that Chargers HC Anthony Lynn announced Monday that Williams needed to undergo surgery on his wrist and would subsequently miss the remainder of the 2017 season.

Williams, 25, is a former fourth-round pick by the Giants of the 2014 NFL Draft. He was in the third year a four-year, $2,673,600 rookie contract and set to earn a base salary of $600,000 for 2016 when the Giants cut him loose coming out of the preseason.

Williams wound up being claimed off of waivers from by the Chargers. He returned to Los Angeles on an exclusive rights this offseason, but was cut loose at the start of the regular season.

The Chargers added him to their practice squad soon after and eventually called him up to their active roster.

In 2017, Williams has appeared in eight games for the Chargers and rushed for 25 yards on nine carries and no touchdowns.
