Chargers Promote RB Andre Williams, Add RB Gus Johnson To PS

The San Diego Chargers promoted RB Andre Williams to their active roster and signed RB Gus Johnson to their practice squad.

Williams, 24, is a former fourth-round pick by the Giants of the 2014 NFL Draft. He was in the third year a four-year, $2,673,600 rookie contract and set to earn a base salary of $600,000 for 2016 when the Giants cut him loose coming out of the preseason.

Williams wound up being claimed off of waivers from by the Chargers but was later cut him loose before signing him to their practice squad.

In 2015, Williams appeared in all 16 games for the Giants and recorded 257 yards on 88 carries (2.9 YPC) and scored one rushing touchdown. He also caught one pass for seven receiving yards.
