The San Diego Chargers announced that they’ve also released veteran CB Brandon Flowers on Tuesday.
Flowers, 31, is a former second-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2008. He signed a four-year, $36.4 million contract that includes $20.5 million guaranteed with the Chargers back in March of 2015 and was set to make base salaries of $9 million and $7.4 million over the final two years of the contract.
According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Flowers will free up $7 million of available cap space while creating $4 million in dead money.
In 2016, Flowers appeared in six games for the Chargers and recorded 28 tackles, one interception returned for a touchdown and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 48 cornerback out of 120 qualifying players.
