Chargers & Rookie DE Joey Bosa Have Been In Talks This Week

Jarrett Bell of USA Today, citing people on both sides of the dispute with knowledge, reports that Chargers and first-round DE Joey Bosa have been in talks this week.

Bell says that the two sides are at least speaking and can be seen as a “measure of progress” after they had gone a few weeks without even speaking to one another.

Last we heard, Jason Cole of B/R reported that the situation had turned ugly and there has been “irreparable” harm done to the relationship between the team and Bosa.

The deadline for the Chargers to trade Bosa came and went a few weeks ago without San Diego even considering the idea.

The issues remaining for the Chargers and Bosa come down to the inclusion of offset language and the distribution of bonus payments.

Bosa, 20, was taken with the No. 3 overall pick by the Chargers. It was a bit of a surprise to see them grab Bosa, considering the amount of buzz that they were going to take either take Ronnie Stanley or DeForest Buckner.

According to OverTheCap.com, Bosa will sign a four-year contract worth $25,873,672 to go along with a signing bonus of $17,017,216 once they’ve reached an agreement on the contract specifics. The contract will include a fifth-year option for the team to consider in 2019.

During his three-year career at Ohio State, Bosa recorded 148 tackles, 51 tackles for a loss, 26 sacks, five forced fumbles, an interception, two fumble recoveries, and six pass defenses.
