Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Chargers S Eric Weddle did not report to voluntary offseason workouts on Monday and is looking for a new contract.

According to Rapoport, Weddle would like an extension that would allow him to retire as a member of the Chargers.

Weddle said that he feels disrespected by the Chargers lack of interest in negotiating a long-term deal.

“I feel highly, highly disrespected,” Weddle said, via Kevin Acee of the Union-Tribune. “… It is what it is, but there is no reason for me to put out any more effort.

We’ve come to them numerous times and said we want to be part of the team, we want to retire as a Charger,” Weddle said. “We’ve completely gotten pushed aside.”

Weddle, 30, is entering the final year of his five-year, $40 million contract that included $19 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $7.5 million for the 2015 season.

It’s worth mentioning that a long-term deal could provide the Chargers with some immediate cap relief given that his cap figure is $10.1 million.

In 2014, Weddle appeared in all 16 games and recorded 114 tackles, one interception, two forced fumbles and eight pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 1 safety out of 87 qualifying players.
