Chargers Sign RB Ronnie Brown

The San Diego Chargers announced the signing of free agent RB Ronnie Brown.

Brown began the 2014 season with the Houston Texans, but was released last week after registering only six carries throughout the young season.

Brown, of course, is returning to San Diego where he spent the 2012-13 seasons.  He established himself as an excellent pass-catcher out of the backfield during his tenure there.

The need for San Diego is obvious.  Starting RB Ryan Mathews continues to nurse a MCL sprain, and RB Danny Woodhead was lost for the season.  To make matters worse, RB Donald Brown left Sunday’s game against New York with a concussion.

Accordingly, Brown’s familiarity with the offense could prove valuable, as the only healthy options-Branden Oliver and Shaun Draughn-are in their first years with the team.

Brown ran for 377 yards in his two years with the Chargers, and added 431 yards on 57 catches.
