Chargers Sign TE Austin Roberts, Waive LS Anthony Kukwa

The Los Angeles Chargers announced Wednesday that they’ve signed TE Austin Roberts to a contract and waived LS Anthony Kukwa.

There was speculation that the Chargers may look to re-sign veteran TE Antonio Gates following the season-ending injury to Hunter Henry, but it looks like they want to see what they have with their younger options for the time being.

Roberts wound up going undrafted out of UCLA last month. He tried out for the 49ers during their rookie minicamp but wasn’t signed to a contract.

The Chargers hosted him for a workout during their rookie minicamp, so he was clearly on their radar as a potential addition.

During his three-year college career at UCLA, Roberts appeared in 17 games and caught 35 passes for 500 yards receiving and three touchdowns.
