Chargers TE Hunter Henry “Highly Unlikely” To Return This Season

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the Chargers are not optimistic about the possibility of TE Hunter Henry returning from his ACL tear later on in the season.

The Chargers left the door open to the remote possibility of Henry returning from the PUP list later on in the season, but La Canfora says the odds of this happening remain “quite remote.

Henry is four months removed from undergoing knee surgery to repair his ACL, so the Chargers need to take his long-term future in consideration.

Henry, 23, is a former second-round pick of the Chargers back in 2016. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $6.38 million contract that included $3.98 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $1.03 million and $1.32 million over the final two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Henry appeared in 14 games for the Chargers and caught 45 passes for 579 yards receiving and four touchdowns. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 3 tight end out of 74 qualifying players.
