Chargers Waive S Adrian Phillips To Make Room For TE Antonio Gates

Michael Gehlken of the Union-Tribune San Diego reports that the Chargers are waiving S Adrian Phillips on Monday to clear a roster spot for TE Antonio Gates.

Gates served his four-game suspension, and will be active for their match up tonight against the Steelers.

Phillips, 23, signed on with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Texas back in May of last year. He’s been on and off of the Chargers’ practice squad since then, so it wouldn’t be much of a surprising if they placed him on their taxi squad at some point this week.

This season, Phillips has appeared in three games for the Chargers and recorded six tackles.
