Chargers Could Be Without Rookie DE Joey Bosa For Another Two Weeks?

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported on Good Morning Football on Thursday that Chargers first-round pick Joey Bosa is unlikely to face the Jaguars this weekend and could possibly even miss their Week 3 matchup as well.

It does not seem so,” Rapoport said when asked if Bosa is likely to play in Week 2. “He didn’t practice yesterday with a bulky hamstring which he strained after just a couple days of practice. We know he showed up late in (the preseason) after not signing his deal. Was not really a holdout but was just staying away from the team until he signed his contract.

“So he had a nagging hamstring injury. He missed last week. Hasn’t even practiced in full pads yet. That is a major problem. Not gonna play until he practices in full pads maybe once or maybe more. It’s not gonna be Joey Bosa this week — the hope is for Week 3. But even that’s not guaranteed.

Bosa’s contract dispute with the Chargers was finally settled a few weeks ago, but it appears as though it also left him susceptible to injury. It was shortly after he returned to the team that new broke he was dealing with a hamstring injury.

Bosa, 20, was taken with the No. 3 overall pick by the Chargers. He signed a four-year contract worth $25,873,672 to go along with a signing bonus of $17,017,216. The contract includes a fifth-year option for the team to consider in 2019.

During his three-year career at Ohio State, Bosa recorded 148 tackles, 51 tackles for a loss, 26 sacks, five forced fumbles, an interception, two fumble recoveries, and six pass defenses.

We’ll have more regarding Bosa’s status as the news is available.
