Chargers Sign Rookie C Barrett Gouger Following Tryout

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Chargers are signing rookie C Barrett Gouger to a contract following a successful tryout on Thursday.

This comes less than a day after the Chargers lost second-round OL Forrest Lamp for the season with a torn ACL, so it appears they’re wasting no time in finding some more offensive depth.

Gouger wound up going undrafted out of Vanderbilt a few months ago. He was invited to the New York Jets’ rookie minicamp but wasn’t signed to a contract.

Gouger started all 13 games for the Commodores last year and played both guard and center during his college career, so he offers some versatility. In total, Gourger appeared in 34 games over the course of four years for Vanderbilt.
