Chargers OLB Melvin Ingram Suffers A Torn ACL

Update:

The San Diego Chargers have announced that second-year OLB Melvin Ingram has in fact suffered a torn ACL.

Ingram will almost certainly be out for the entire 2013 season. His career has gotten off to a very tough start, so we’ll have to see how he rebounds from a serious knee injury next season.

It will be interesting to see if San Diego starts looking around for some additional help 3-4 outside linebacker.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the Chargers “fear” second-year OLB Melvin Ingram has suffered a torn ACL.

  • Michael Ghelken reports that Ingram is expected to seek more opinions on a knee injury, but a torn ACL remains a “possibility.”

If Ingram did in fact suffer damage to his ACL ligament, then his 2013 season is almost certainly over.

San Diego’s new coaching staff was hoping that Ingram would be able to take a big step forward this year after totaling just a single sack in 2012.

There’s been a lot made about the team’s lack of depth at left tackle, but this could be a huge blow to their defense front-seven, as the Chargers aren’t exactly deep at edge-rusher.

We’ll have more as the news is available.
