Charles Johnson Visiting Giants & Buccaneers

Update:

Josina Anderson reports that the Giants have a follow up meeting with free agent DE Charles Johnson for Monday.

As of now, Johnson’s scheduled to fly to Tampa Bay and visit with the Buccaneers on Monday after his meeting with the Giants concludes.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter, citing league sources, reports that free agent DE Charles Johnson is scheduled to visit with the Giants and then meet with the Buccaneers in the coming days.

Both teams are clearly in the market for defensive end help and signing Johnson wouldn’t factor into their 2017 compensatory picks.

Josina Anderson of ESPN reports that former Panthers DE Charles Johnson will visit with the Giants on Sunday.

The Giants reportedly have interest in free agent DE Mario Williams as well, but he took his first visit to the Dolphins on Saturday.

New York has been connected to almost all of the available defensive ends, considering their need for help at the position and ample cap space to work with.

Johnson, 29, was entering the sixth year of his six-year, $76 million contract when he was released in a move that freed up $11 million in available cap space for the Panthers.

In 2015, Johnson has appeared in nine games and recorded 12 tackles, a sack and a pass defense for the Panthers. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 37 defensive end out of 110 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2016 Free Agents list.
